QUESTIONS FROM ACTS CHAPTER TWO – PART TWO
1. What did some ask Peter after he said, "that God hath made him both Lord
and Christ, this Jesus whom ye crucified? –
Acts 2:36
Men and brethren what shall we do ? – Acts 2:37
2. What did Peter tell them? –
Acts 2:38
Then Peter said unto them, Repent, and be baptized every one of you in the
name of Jesus Christ for the remission of sins, and ye shall receive the
gift of the Holy Ghost.
3. Show that "for (KJV), or unto (ASV)" in
Acts 2:38
does not mean "because of" as some teach
Matthew 26:28
28
For this is my blood of the new testament, which is shed for many for the
remission of sins.
Now, in regard to the Greek word for or unto in
Acts 2:38, Young's
Analytical Concordance gives forty-three Greek words where we use the
English word for. And the word for in Acts 2:38, for remission of sins is EIS. And the Concordance gives the meaning of that as being “with a view
to”. And, of course, in the context it means with a view to receiving
remission of sins. There are some Greek words that mean because. I guess the
primary one that they would be trying to base their argument on would be the
seventh as listed in Young's Analytical Concordance spelled GALAL, but they
may not give the Greek words. They may tell you that for means because of
like that man is serving twenty years for the crime that he committed,
meaning he is serving twenty years because he committed a crime.

Of vast significance are the words "unto remission of sins," translated "for
the remission of sins" in the KJV. Note that Christ's blood was not shed
because men were already forgiven but in order that they might be forgiven.
Christ did not die because men were already saved but in order that they
might, as a result of his death, receive salvation. The application is
binding on the identical expression, "remission of sins" in Acts 2:38:
"Repent and be baptized every one of you in the name of Jesus Christ UNTO
THE REMISSION OF SINS." Whatever the expression means in one place it must
also mean in the other. Thus, the familiar heresy that baptism is not
related to forgiveness of sins is refuted, incidentally but devastatingly,
by Christ's use of the key phrase in this verse. This expositor has never
seen an exposition, version, commentary or translation in which the
identical words (unto remission of sins) in
Acts 2:38 and
Matthew 26:28 were
not identically translated. Both passages in the Greek text, and as far as
is known in all translations, are identical in form and meaning. Therefore,
if Christ's pouring out of his blood was a prerequisite in the procurement
of human forgiveness, then also baptism is a prerequisite action in the
procurement of that same forgiveness on behalf of his disciples. He must
have shed his blood; we MUST be baptized. Nor does this equate one action
with the other. Christ's atonement was the ENABLING ACT; man's baptism is
but human compliance with one of the conditions upon which men are
privileged to participate in it, but that human compliance is necessary too;
hence, baptism is "unto remission of sins."

4. How did Peter exhort the people?
Acts 2:40
And with many other words did he testify and exhort, saying, Save yourselves
from this untoward generation.
They had to do something, in order to be saved, that is, obey the gospel.
They had already been told to repent and be baptized for the remission of
sins – Acts 2:38. Despite what man says, the Bible is very clear. Those who
would be saved must by faith obey the Lord! Then, after one becomes a
Christian there must be faithfulness to God’s will
Revelation 2:10
10
Fear none of those things which thou shalt suffer: behold, the devil shall
cast some of you into prison, that ye may be tried; and ye shall have
tribulation ten days: be thou faithful unto death, and I will give thee a
crown of life.
Philippians 2:12
12
Wherefore, my beloved, as ye have always obeyed, not as in my presence only,
but now much more in my absence, work out your own salvation with fear and
trembling.
5. What were the three thousand converts added unto? –
Acts 2:47 – The
church that Christ had promised to build –
Matthew 16:18. The church that
had just come with power!
18
And I say also unto thee, That thou art Peter, and upon this rock I will
build my church; and the gates of hell shall not prevail against it.
6. In what things did they continue steadfastly?
- The apostles’ doctrine –
Acts 2:42. The body of teaching authorized by
Christ –
Matthew 16:19. Also notice
Matthew 28:18-20, This doctrine included
proper worship –
John 4:24
7. On what occasion is it stated that the disciples were “having favor with
all the people"? –
Acts 2:47 When they were untied in the truth. Nothing but
the truth can unite souls in the Christ. One is baptized into Him –
Galatians 3:27
and remain in contact with the blood by walking in the light
– I John 1:7 in this light Christians have fellowship with each other!
