THE ENCOURAGEMENT PLACE
Genesis 2:18-25
18
And the LORD God said, It is not good that the man
should be alone; I will make him an help meet for him.
19
And out of the ground the LORD God formed every
beast of the field, and every fowl of the air; and brought them unto Adam to
see what he would call them: and whatsoever Adam called every living
creature, that was the name thereof.
20
And Adam gave names to all cattle, and to the fowl
of the air, and to every beast of the field; but for Adam there was not
found an help meet for him.
21
And the LORD God caused a deep sleep to fall upon
Adam, and he slept: and he took one of his ribs, and closed up the flesh
instead thereof;
22
And the rib, which the LORD God had taken from
man, made he a woman, and brought her unto the man.
23
And Adam said, This is now bone of my bones, and
flesh of my flesh: she shall be called Woman, because she was taken out of
Man.
24
Therefore shall
a man leave his father and his mother, and shall
cleave unto his wife: and they shall be one flesh.
Mt 19:5
Mark 10:7
1 Cor 6:16
Eph 5:31
25
And they were both naked, the man and his wife,
and were not ashamed.

I. Adam and Eve, the first couple
Genesis 2:21-23
21
And the LORD God caused a deep sleep to fall upon
Adam, and he slept: and he took one of his ribs, and closed up the flesh
instead thereof;
22
And the rib, which the LORD God had taken from
man, made he a woman, and brought her unto the man.
23
And Adam said, This is now bone of my bones, and
flesh of my flesh: she shall be called Woman, because she was taken out of
Man.
A. Adam, the first lonely person.
B. Adam's deep sleep, the first anesthesia.
C. Adam's rib removed, the first surgery.
D. Adam and Eve's joining, the first marriage.
E. Adam could never be whole again without Eve who had his missing rib.
II. Three principles of encouragement in marriage
Genesis
2:24, 25
24

a man leave his father and his mother, and shall
cleave unto his wife: and they shall be one flesh.
Mt 19:5
Mark 10:7
1 Cor 6:16
Eph 5:31
25
And they were both naked, the man and his wife,
and were not ashamed.
A. Responsibility of marriage - "leave father and mother" - Genesis 2:24.
B. Commitment to intimacy - "united to his wife and the two became one
flesh"
Genesis 2:24
24
Therefore shall
a man leave his father and his mother, and shall
cleave unto his wife: and they shall be one flesh.
Mt 19:5
Mark 10:7
1 Cor 6:16
Eph 5:31
C. Commitment to TRANSPARENCY - "both naked and they were not ashamed"
Genesis
2:25
25
And they were both naked, the man and his wife,
and were not ashamed.
EPHESIANS
4:22-27
22
That ye put off concerning the former conversation
the old man, which is corrupt according to the deceitful lusts;
23
And be renewed in the spirit of your mind;
24
And that ye put on the new man, which after God is
created in righteousness and true holiness.
25
Wherefore putting away lying,
speak every man truth with his neighbour:
for we are members one of another. Zech 8:16
26
Be ye angry, and sin not: let not the sun go down
upon your wrath:
27
Neither give place to the devil.
III. God's plan for marriage:
A. A life long commitment – till death do we part.
B. Work it out with longsuffering.
C. Greatest place for encouragement.
Conclusion:
A. the church is the bride of Christ
Ephesians
5:21-33
21
Submitting yourselves one to another in the fear
of God.
22
Wives, submit yourselves unto your own husbands,
as unto the Lord.
23
For the husband is the head of the wife, even as
Christ is the head of the church: and he is the saviour of the body.
24
Therefore as the church is subject unto Christ, so
let the wives be to their own husbands in every thing.
25
Husbands, love your wives, even as Christ also
loved the church, and gave himself for it;
26
That he might sanctify and cleanse it with the
washing of water by the word,
27
That he might present it to himself a glorious
church, not having spot, or wrinkle, or any such thing; but that it should
be holy and without blemish.
28
So ought men to love their wives as their own
bodies. He that loveth his wife loveth himself.
29
For no man ever yet hated his own flesh; but
nourisheth and cherisheth it, even as the Lord the church:
30
For we are members of his body, of his flesh, and
of his bones.
31
For this cause shall a man leave his father and
mother, and shall be joined unto his wife, and they two shall be one flesh.
Gen 2:24
Matt 19:5
Mark 10:7
1 Cor 6:16
32
This is a great mystery: but I speak concerning
Christ and the church.
33
Nevertheless let every one of you in particular so
love his wife even as himself; and the wife see that she reverence her
husband.
B. many blessings, obligations, and relationships in the family of God
Hebrews
10:24,25
24
And let us consider one another to provoke unto
love and to good works:
25
Not forsaking the assembling of ourselves
together, as the manner of some is; but exhorting one another: and so much
the more, as ye see the day approaching.
C. why not come to the place of encouragement?

THE MASTER’S TOUCH
Mark 7:31-37
31
And again, departing from the coasts of Tyre and
Sidon, he came unto the sea of Galilee, through the midst of the coasts of
Decapolis.
32
And they bring unto him one that was deaf, and had
an impediment in his speech; and they beseech him to put his hand upon him.
33
And he took him aside from the multitude, and put
his fingers into his ears, and he spit, and touched his tongue;
34
And looking up to heaven, he sighed, and saith
unto him, Ephphatha, that is, Be opened.
35
And straightway his ears were opened, and the
string of his tongue was loosed, and he spake plain.
36
And he charged them that they should tell no man:
but the more he charged them, so much the more a great deal they published
it;
37
And were beyond measure astonished, saying, He
hath done all things well: he maketh both the deaf to hear, and the dumb to
speak.
I. Jesus healed the deaf man with a speech impediment:
A. The people begged Jesus to heal the man.
B. Jesus put his fingers into the man's ears, then spat and touched the
man's tongue.
C. Then Jesus sighed, looked to heaven and said "Be opened."
D. The man's ears were opened and he could speak plainly. The people said
"He has done all things well."
II. There are other examples of Jesus' touch in the book of Mark:
A. Jesus took Simon's mother-in-law by the hand and her fever left her
Mark
1:30, 31
30
But Simon's wife's mother lay sick of a fever, and
anon they tell him of her.
31
And he came and took her by the hand, and lifted
her up; and immediately the fever left her, and she ministered unto them.
B. Jesus touched the leper and was immediately made clean
Mark
1:40-42
40
And there came a leper to him, beseeching him, and
kneeling down to him, and saying unto him, If thou wilt, thou canst make me
clean.
41
And Jesus, moved with compassion, put forth his
hand, and touched him, and saith unto him, I will; be thou clean.
42
And as soon as he had spoken, immediately the
leprosy departed from him, and he was cleansed.
C. People with disease pushed forward to touch him
Mark
3:10
10
For he had healed many; insomuch that they pressed
upon him for to touch him, as many as had plagues.
D. The woman with a severe bleeding problem touched the hem of his garment
and was healed
Mark
5:27-29
27
When she had heard of Jesus, came in the press
behind, and touched his garment.
28
For she said, If I may touch but his clothes, I
shall be whole.
29
And straightway the fountain of her blood was
dried up; and she felt in her body that she was healed of that plague.
E. Jesus took the hand of a 12 year old girl and raised her from the
dead
Mark 5:41-43
41
And he took the damsel by the hand, and said unto
her, Talitha cumi; which is, being interpreted, Damsel, I say unto thee,
arise.
42
And straightway the damsel arose, and walked; for
she was of the age of twelve years. And they were astonished with a great
astonishment.
43
And he charged them straitly that no man should
know it; and commanded that something should be given her to eat.
F. Parents brought their children to Jesus to be touched by him
Mark
10:13
13
And they brought young children to him, that he
should touch them: and his disciples rebuked those that brought them.
G. Blind Bartimaeus begged Jesus to touch him and heal him
Mark
10:46-52
46
And they came to Jericho: and as he went out of
Jericho with his disciples and a great number of people, blind Bartimaeus,
the son of Timaeus, sat by the highway side begging.
47
And when he heard that it was Jesus of Nazareth,
he began to cry out, and say, Jesus, thou son of David, have mercy on me.
48
And many charged him that he should hold his
peace: but he cried the more a great deal, Thou son of David, have mercy on
me.
49
And Jesus stood still, and commanded him to be
called. And they call the blind man, saying unto him, Be of good comfort,
rise; he calleth thee.
50
And he, casting away his garment, rose, and came
to Jesus.
51
And Jesus answered and said unto him, What wilt
thou that I should do unto thee? The blind man said unto him, Lord, that I
might receive my sight.
52
And Jesus said unto him, Go thy way; thy faith
hath made thee whole. And immediately he received his sight, and followed
Jesus in the way.
III. People need to be touched:
A. A mother touches her baby.
B. People in nursing facilities need touch.
C. A husband and wife touch.
D. A father and his teenager need to touch.
IV. Jesus gave five blessings with his touch:
A. Forgiveness - Be kind to one another forgiving one another, forgiving one
another as in Christ God forgave you
Ephesians
4:32
32
And be ye kind one to another, tenderhearted,
forgiving one another, even as God for Christ's sake hath forgiven you.
B. Identification - Jesus is our High Priest and identifies with our
weakness; he is touched with our infirmities
Hebrews 4:14-16
14
Seeing then that we have a great high priest, that
is passed into the heavens, Jesus the Son of God, let us hold fast our
profession.
15
For we have not an high priest which cannot be
touched with the feeling of our infirmities; but was in all points tempted
like as we are, yet without sin.
16
Let us therefore come boldly unto the throne of
grace, that we may obtain mercy, and find grace to help in time of need.
C. Security - By his death he destroys Satan and frees us
Hebrews
2:14,15
14
Forasmuch then as the children are partakers of
flesh and blood, he also himself likewise took part of the same; that
through death he might destroy him that had the power of death, that is, the
devil;
15
And deliver them who through fear of death were
all their lifetime subject to bondage.
D. Affirmation - We have an anchor for our soul; he is our High Priest
Hebrews
6:19,20
19
Which hope we have as an anchor of the soul, both
sure and stedfast, and which entereth into that within the veil;
20
Whither the forerunner is for us entered, even
Jesus, made an high priest for ever after the order of Melchisedec.
E. Cleanses us - The blood of Christ purifies our conscience from dead works
Hebrews
9:14,15
14
How much more shall the blood of Christ, who
through the eternal Spirit offered himself without spot to God, purge your
conscience from dead works to serve the living God?
15
And for this cause he is the mediator of the new
testament, that by means of death, for the redemption of the transgressions
that were under the first testament, they which are called might receive the
promise of eternal inheritance.
