Tell Them of Jesus - Lesson Two

John 8:21-24

21
Then said Jesus again unto them, I go my way, and ye shall seek me, and shall die in your sins: whither I go, ye cannot come.

22
Then said the Jews, Will he kill himself? because he saith, Whither I go, ye cannot come.

23
And he said unto them, Ye are from beneath; I am from above: ye are of this world; I am not of this world.

24
I said therefore unto you, that ye shall die in your sins: for if ye believe not that I am he, ye shall die in your sins.

Introduction:

a. Ever get distracted and fail to remember something important?

b. Many people have a "routine."

c. Even those "routine" things can be forgotten if something interrupts.

d. Many have forgotten about sin and the savior!

e. Remember and tell others about Jesus from
I Corinthians 15

I.
I Corinthians 15:1-19

I. The gospel Paul preached and the Corinthians accepted was Savior-centered:

a. A man who was the Christ died

 I Corinthians 15:1-3

1
Moreover, brethren, I declare unto you the gospel which I preached unto you, which also ye have received, and wherein ye stand;

2
By which also ye are saved, if ye keep in memory what I preached unto you, unless ye have believed in vain.

3
For I delivered unto you first of all that which I also received, how that Christ died for our sins according to the scriptures;

b. A man who was the Christ was buried for three days

 I Corinthians 15:4

4
And that he was buried, and that he rose again the third day according to the scriptures:

c. A man who was the Christ was resurrected, brought back to life to never again die

d. This resurrected man who was God's promised Christ appeared to numberous of people including Paul

 I Corinthians 15:5-9

5
And that he was seen of Cephas, then of the twelve:

6
After that, he was seen of above five hundred brethren at once; of whom the greater part remain unto this present, but some are fallen asleep.

7
After that, he was seen of James; then of all the apostles.

8
And last of all he was seen of me also, as of one born out of due time.

9
For I am the least of the apostles, that am not meet to be called an apostle, because I persecuted the church of God.

e. The reason the Corinthians were Christians was due to their faith in this man

 I Corinthians 15:10,11

10
But by the grace of God I am what I am: and his grace which was bestowed upon me was not in vain; but I laboured more abundantly than they all: yet not I, but the grace of God which was with me.

11
Therefore whether it were I or they, so we preach, and so ye believed.

II. Unless they placed their confidence in God's resurrection of this man, their faith was useless:

a. If there was no resurrection of this man, the preaching they believed was useless

 I Corinthians 15:12-14

12
Now if Christ be preached that he rose from the dead, how say some among you that there is no resurrection of the dead?

13
But if there be no resurrection of the dead, then is Christ not risen:

14
And if Christ be not risen, then is our preaching vain, and your faith is also vain.

b. If the resurrection of this man did not occur, the preachers who said it did happen were liars

 I Corinthians 15:15

15
Yea, and we are found false witnesses of God; because we have testified of God that he raised up Christ: whom he raised not up, if so be that the dead rise not.

c. If the resurrection of this man did not occur, their faith in this man is without value

I Corinthians 15:16

16
For if the dead rise not, then is not Christ raised:

d. If the resurrection of this man did not occur, they are still hopelessly enslaved to their sins

 I Corinthians 15:17

17
And if Christ be not raised, your faith is vain; ye are yet in your sins.

e. If the resurrection of this man did no occur, dead Christians are just dead

 I Corinthians 15:18

18
Then they also which are fallen asleep in Christ are perished.

f. In fact, if the resurrection of this man did not occur, Christians are to be pitied above all other people--through their deception they waste life

 I Corinthians 15:19

19
If in this life only we have hope in Christ, we are of all men most miserable.

iii. We serve a risen savior

I Corinthians 15:20

20
But now is Christ risen from the dead, and become the firstfruits of them that slept.

A. Tell others why we are holders of the hope

I Peter 3:15

15
But sanctify the Lord God in your hearts: and be ready always to give an answer to every man that asketh you a reason of the hope that is in you with meekness and fear:

B. Let your light shine

Matthew 5:14-16

14
Ye are the light of the world. A city that is set on an hill cannot be hid.

15
Neither do men light a candle, and put it under a bushel, but on a candlestick; and it giveth light unto all that are in the house.

16
Let your light so shine before men, that they may see your good works, and glorify your Father which is in heaven.

C. Be one who lives as a Christ centered person

 I Timothy 4:12

12
Let no man despise thy youth; but be thou an example of the believers, in word, in conversation, in charity, in spirit, in faith, in purity

Conclusion:

A. He is risen!

B. Tell others about him!

C. He wants to raise you up to live with him this hour!

Ten reasons for studying the Bible

The Bible yields food for the soul It has the milk necessary for the spiritual growth of the babe, and strong meat to sustain the older, mature Christian

I Peter 2:1,2

1
Wherefore laying aside all malice, and all guile, and hypocrisies, and envies, and all evil speakings,

2
As newborn babes, desire the sincere milk of the word, that ye may grow thereby:

Hebrews 5:12-14

12
For when for the time ye ought to be teachers, ye have need that one teach you again which be the first principles of the oracles of God; and are become such as have need of milk, and not of strong meat.

13
For every one that useth milk is unskilful in the word of righteousness: for he is a babe.

14
But strong meat belongeth to them that are of full age, even those who by reason of use have their senses exercised to discern both good and evil.

A knowledge of the truth and obedience to it is necessary to be made free from sin

John 8:30-32

30
As he spake these words, many believed on him.

31
Then said Jesus to those Jews which believed on him, If ye continue in my word, then are ye my disciples indeed;

32
And ye shall know the truth, and the truth shall make you free.

I Peter 1:22

22
Seeing ye have purified your souls in obeying the truth through the Spirit unto unfeigned love of the brethren, see that ye love one another with a pure heart fervently:

The Bible reveals God's view of man. It enables the student to see himself as God sees him, for the Bible is God's mirror of the soul.

James 1:21-25

21
Wherefore lay apart all filthiness and superfluity of naughtiness, and receive with meekness the engrafted word, which is able to save your souls.

22
But be ye doers of the word, and not hearers only, deceiving your own selves.

23
For if any be a hearer of the word, and not a doer, he is like unto a man beholding his natural face in a glass:

24
For he beholdeth himself, and goeth his way, and straightway forgetteth what manner of man he was.

25
But whoso looketh into the perfect law of liberty, and continueth therein, he being not a forgetful hearer, but a doer of the work, this man shall be blessed in his deed.

A working knowledge of the Bible arms one against the difficulties and hardships of life. It has a message to cover every condition and problem. It can be used in every emergency from the cradle to the grave

Romans 15:4

4
For whatsoever things were written aforetime were written for our learning, that we through patience and comfort of the scriptures might have hope.

The knowledgeable Christian is able to comfort and edify the discouraged and brokenhearted

Colossians 4:6

6
Let your speech be alway with grace, seasoned with salt, that ye may know how ye ought to answer every man.

I Thessalonians 5:14

14
Now we exhort you, brethren, warn them that are unruly, comfort the feebleminded, support the weak, be patient toward all men.

The Scriptures contain all good works that are pleasing to God, and give all things that pertain to life and godliness

II Timothy 3:15-17

15
And that from a child thou hast known the holy scriptures, which are able to make thee wise unto salvation through faith which is in Christ Jesus.

16
All scripture is given by inspiration of God, and is profitable for doctrine, for reproof, for correction, for instruction in righteousness:

17
That the man of God may be perfect, thoroughly furnished unto all good works.

II Peter 1:3

3
According as his divine power hath given unto us all things that pertain unto life and godliness, through the knowledge of him that hath called us to glory and virtue:

One must study the Bible to have the approval of God, to be a ready workman, and to handle correctly the Word of truth

II Timothy 2:15

15
Study to show thyself approved unto God, a workman that needeth not to be ashamed, rightly dividing the word of truth.

I Peter 3:15

15
But sanctify the Lord God in your hearts: and be ready always to give an answer to every man that asketh you a reason of the hope that is in you with meekness and fear:

A knowledge of the Bible is the only safeguard against fatal error

Acts 17:11

11
These were more noble than those in Thessalonica, in that they received the word with all readiness of mind, and searched the scriptures daily, whether those things were so.

I John 4:1

1
Beloved, believe not every spirit, but try the spirits whether they are of God: because many false prophets are gone out into the world.

The Scriptures are able to build us up and to give us a home in heaven

Acts 20:32

32
And now, brethren, I commend you to God, and to the word of his grace, which is able to build you up, and to give you an inheritance among all them which are sanctified.

II Timothy 3:15

15
And that from a child thou hast known the holy scriptures, which are able to make thee wise unto salvation through faith which is in Christ Jesus.

10.The Bible will be our standard of judgment in the last day

John 12:48

48
He that rejecteth me, and receiveth not my words, hath one that judgeth him: the word that I have spoken, the same shall judge him in the last day.

Revelation 20:12

12
And I saw the dead, small and great, stand before God; and the books were opened: and another book was opened, which is the book of life: and the dead were judged out of those things which were written in the books, according to their works.
