Enoch Walked with
God
Genesis 5:21-24
Introduction:
a. Much in the news today about men doing wrong.
b. Enoch can show us, by example, the kind of man God wants.
I. HE WALKED WITH GOD:
a. Our text mentions twice that he walked with God.
b. Walk is more than just taking steps
c. WALK refers to the lifestyle, manner of living, mode of conduct
d. This was not just any walk:
1. There is a walk in sin, unrighteousness
2. Enoch's walk was WITH God upright, righteous
3. His conduct was righteous.
e. Harmony and Peace between Enoch and God:
1. Amos 3:3 Can two walk together, unless they are agreed?
2. Rhetorical question Obvious answer NO
3. Agreement with God is not by compromise
4. We must walk the path God chooses not our own way Proverbs 16:9.
5. Philippians 3:16,17
f. We are never too old to start serving God:
1. Enoch was 65 when he began his walk with God.
2. It took his some time to get headed in the right direction.
g. His walk lasted 300 years!:
1. It is sad to see some today who do not remain faithful for a week, month,
or a year.
II. ENOCH PLEASED GOD:
a. Hebrews 11:5,6 - 2nd mention of Enoch
B. He is included in the Hall of Faith list
C. To please God FAITH is a MUST.
D. Think about the options:
1.Enoch could had pleased himself
2. He could have sought to please others (wife, family, friends)
3. He could have tried to please men
f. what does the bible command us to do?
1. In everything we should ask what would please God?
2. Family, social, work, school, entertainment
3. What would be pleasing to God?
III. HE DID NOT SEE DEATH:
a. Genesis 5:24 He was not, for God took him
b. Of the billions who have lived on earth only 2 (who are no longer on
the earth) have not died:
1. Enoch and Elijah (taken in chariot)
2. God rewarded these men for their faithful service
c. God still rewards those who seek to follow Him - JOHN 11:25; I Timothy
1:10.
d. god gives eternal life to the faithful revelation 2:10; matthew 25:46.
Conclusion:
a. Enoch is an example for all today:
1. He walked with God
2. He pleased God
3. He did not die
b. You may die physically, but, as Jesus said, YOU WILL LIVE.

SHOCKING RELIGION
INTRODUCTION:
A. Have you ever been shocked by a certain bit of news? If so, you will
understand what is meant by Christianity being a shocking religion
- acts 2:36-41
B. Acts 17:19-32
C. People are always shocked when confronted with the truth of the gospel.
D. Some are shocked at:
1. Its message.
2. The demands it makes.
3. The worship it demands.
4. The scope of its promises.
E. The reaction of the Athenians is very typical of people's reaction to the
truth.
F. Today, let's study some of the shocking events centered around
Christianity.
I. THE BIRTH OF IT'S FOUNDER, JESUS, WAS A SHOCKING EVENT:
A. Shocking to the prophets - hundreds of years before:
1. I Peter 1:10,11.
2. Isaiah 7:14 born of a virgin
3. Isaiah 53:1-5.
B. When prophecies were fulfilled, it was shocking to:
1. Mary - Luke 1:31 - Angel - son - Jesus - can't be, I am a virgin.
2. Joseph - Matthew 1:19 - desired to put her away.
3. Shepherds - Luke 2:8-20 - wise men - Matthew 2:1-12 - must have been
shocked.
C. The birth of Jesus didn't fit the mold that the world thought of as what
a great man's birth should be.
II. THE LIFE OF JESUS WAS SHOCKING TO HIS SOCIETY:
A. As many people count success, Jesus' life was a miserable failure:
1. He never built a financial empire.
2. Never achieved academic excellence.
3. Was never a successful politician.
4. Never even owned a house - Matthew 8:20.
5. Measured by materialism - His life was a failure.
B. YET, His life affected many people:
1. His followers called Him Master.
2. Crowds in the 1,000's thronged to hear him preach.
3. Religious leaders shocked by his claims.
4. At 12 years old - shocked and confounded the doctors of the law Luke
2:42-52.
5. When grown - astonished people because he had not attended the higher
school so Jewish thought:
a. Matthew 13:54-58.
b. Matthew 7:29 - taught with authority.
C. Jesus' manner of life was shocking to many - humble, unselfish life:
1. Did not act like a king.
2. Refused the crowds to make Him an earthly king - John 6:15.
3. He well defined His life and purpose on earth - Matthew 20:28.
4. He shocked his disciples when they quibbled over who was the greatest in
the kingdom - Luke 22:26.
5. That God "exalts the humble and humbles the proud," still shocks many
people.
III. THE DEATH OF JESUS SHOCKED HIS FOLLOWERS:
A. When Jesus said He must die - disciples were shocked:
1. Matthew 16:22
2. Mark 14:50
3. Luke 24:21
B. At the death of their teacher they saw only the end of their hopes and
dreams...Only after the resurrection, did they have their hope revitalized.
C. The idea that life comes from death still shocks people - I Corinthians
1:18
D. The death of Jesus is the source of our Spiritual life:
1. Hebrews 2:9.
2. Hebrews 2:14.
3. Romans 5:8.
E. It may be shocking, but true - Hebrews 9:22 - "and according to the law,
one may almost say, all things are cleansed with blood, and apart from
shedding of blood there is no remission."
IV. PEOPLE ARE SHOCKED AT THIS CHURCH:
A. At the idea of ONE church:
1. Prophets foresaw only one Daniel 2;
Isaiah 2:
2. Christ promised only one - Matt. 16:18.
3. Christ purchased only one - Acts 20:28.
4. Apostles established only one - Galatians 1:6-9; Acts 2.
5. Bible reveals only one Matthew 16:18.
6. Christ prayed for only one - John 17:22.
B. Many say that the Church has no relation to salvation:
1. Acts 2:47.
2. Ephesians 5:23 - Christ is the Saviour of the Church.
CONCLUSION:
A. Christianity is a most shocking religion.
B. Some are shocked to see what the Bible says about becoming a Christian:
1. Romans 1:16.
2. I Corinthians 1:18.
C. Be wise, not foolish. Become a Christian TODAY!
