COME AND SEE
Part one of two
Introduction:
A. Nathanael said,
"Can any good thing come out of Nazareth?"
Philip said,
"Come and see."
B. The story is recorded in
John 1:43-49
43
The day following Jesus would go forth into Galilee, and findeth Philip, and
saith unto him, Follow me.
44
Now Philip was of Bethsaida, the city of Andrew and Peter.
45
Philip findeth Nathanael, and saith unto him, We have found him, of whom
Moses in the law, and the prophets, did write, Jesus of Nazareth, the son of
Joseph.
46
And Nathanael said unto him, Can there any good thing come out of Nazareth?
Philip saith unto him, Come and see.
47
Jesus saw Nathanael coming to him, and saith of him, Behold an Israelite
indeed, in whom is no guile!
48
Nathanael saith unto him, Whence knowest thou me? Jesus answered and said
unto him, Before that Philip called thee, when thou wast under the fig tree,
I saw thee.
49
Nathanael answered and saith unto him, Rabbi, thou art the Son of God; thou
art the King of Israel.
C. In the first century, when
people found Jesus they
immediately went and told others.
D. Philip found Jesus and he went quickly to Nathaniel, so he could meet
Jesus
E. Nathaniel was concerned about whether any good thing
could come out of Nazareth.
F. Philip did not argue the point. He simply asked Nathaniel to
"come and see."
g. OUR MESSAGE for each and
everyone is, "Come
and see."
I. Come and see that the Bible is the inspired word of God:
A. The Bible claims to be the word of God
II Timothy 3:15-17
15
And that from a child thou hast known the holy scriptures, which are able to
make thee wise unto salvation through faith which is in Christ Jesus.
16
All scripture is given by inspiration of God, and is profitable for
doctrine, for reproof, for correction, for instruction in righteousness:
17
That the man of God may be perfect, thoroughly furnished unto all good
works.
C.
II Peter 1:19-21
19
We have also a more sure word of prophecy; whereunto ye do well that ye take
heed, as unto a light that shineth in a dark place, until the day dawn, and
the day star arise in your hearts:
20
Knowing this first, that no prophecy of the scripture is of any private
interpretation.
21
For the prophecy came not in old time by the will of man: but holy men of
God spake as they were moved by the Holy Ghost.
D. The Bible is not the wisdom and
work of men but of the Holy
Spirit
EPHESIANS 6:17
17
And take the helmet of salvation, and the sword of the Spirit, which is the
word of God:
E.
I Corinthians 2:13
13
Which things also we speak, not in the words which man's wisdom teacheth,
but which the Holy Ghost teacheth; comparing spiritual things with
spiritual.
D. The truths of the Bible will
never pass away. Jesus stated
this in Matthew
24:35
35
Heaven and earth shall pass away, but my words shall not pass away.
G. The Bible is truth. It is our
guide from earth to heaven
John 17:17
17
Sanctify them through thy truth: thy word is truth.
H. It is the word of God. It has
nothing to fear from honest
investigation.
I. So, Come and see that the Bible is the inspired word of God.
II. Come and see that Jesus is the Christ, the Son of the living
God:
A. God blessed all nations through the seed of Abraham
Genesis 12:1-3
1
Now the LORD had said unto Abram, Get thee out of thy country, and from thy
kindred, and from thy father's house, unto a land that I will show thee:
2
And I will make of thee a great nation, and I will bless thee, and make thy
name great; and thou shalt be a blessing:
3
And I will bless them that bless thee, and curse him that curseth thee: and
in thee shall all families of the earth be blessed.
b. The scriptures predicted all
nations being blessed through
Abraham
Galatians 3:8,9
8
And the scripture, foreseeing that God would justify the heathen through
faith, preached before the gospel unto Abraham, saying, In thee shall all
nations be blessed.
9
So then they which be of faith are blessed with faithful Abraham.
F. These blessings through Abraham
came in and by the Lord
Jesus Christ
Galatians 3:16
16
Now to Abraham and his seed were the promises made. He saith not, And to
seeds, as of many; but as of one, And to thy seed, which is Christ.
D. Peter acknowledged Jesus to be
the Christ, the Son of God
John 6:69
69
And we believe and are sure that thou art that Christ, the Son of the living
God.
G. Those who believe Jesus to be
the Son must obey Him that He
might be Might save them
Hebrews 5:8,9
8
Though he were a Son, yet learned he obedience by the things which he
suffered;
9
And being made perfect, he became the author of eternal salvation unto all
them that obey him;
H. So, Come and see that Jesus is
the Christ, the Son of the living
God
Luke 24:1-8
1
Now upon the first day of the week, very early in the morning, they came
unto the sepulchre, bringing the spices which they had prepared, and certain
others with them.
2
And they found the stone rolled away from the sepulchre.
3
And they entered in, and found not the body of the Lord Jesus.
4
And it came to pass, as they were much perplexed thereabout, behold, two men
stood by them in shining garments:
5
And as they were afraid, and bowed down their faces to the earth, they said
unto them, Why seek ye the living among the dead?
6
He is not here, but is risen: remember how he spake unto you when he was yet
in Galilee,
7
Saying, The Son of man must be delivered into the hands of sinful men, and
be crucified, and the third day rise again.
8
And they remembered his words,
III. Come and see the precious
blood of Jesus:
A. Man has a sin problem
Romans 6:23
23
For the wages of sin is death; but the gift of God is eternal life through
Jesus Christ our Lord.
B. Sin has separated mankind from
his Creator
Isaiah 59:1-4
1
Behold, the LORD'S hand is not shortened, that it cannot save; neither his
ear heavy, that it cannot hear:
2
But your iniquities have separated between you and your God, and your sins
have hid his face from you, that he will not hear.
3
For your hands are defiled with blood, and your fingers with iniquity; your
lips have spoken lies, your tongue hath muttered perverseness.
4
None calleth for justice, nor any pleadeth for truth: they trust in vanity,
and speak lies; they conceive mischief, and bring forth iniquity.
C. The only answer to the sin
problem is the precious blood of
Jesus
Romans 5:8
8
But God commendeth his love toward us, in that, while we were yet sinners,
Christ died for us.
E. The Gospel is the great news
that Christ suffered SIN’S Penalty in man's Place
I Corinthians
15:1-4
1
Moreover, brethren, I declare unto you the gospel which I preached unto you,
which also ye have received, and wherein ye stand;
2
By which also ye are saved, if ye keep in memory what I preached unto you,
unless ye have believed in vain.
3
For I delivered unto you first of all that which I also received, how that
Christ died for our sins according to the scriptures;
4
And that he was buried, and that he rose again the third day according to
the scriptures:
F. So, Come and see the precious
blood of Jesus
John 19:31-37
31
The Jews therefore, because it was the preparation, that the bodies should
not remain upon the cross on the sabbath day, (for that sabbath day was an
high day,) besought Pilate that their legs might be broken, and that they
might be taken away.
32
Then came the soldiers, and brake the legs of the first, and of the other
which was crucified with him.
33
But when they came to Jesus, and saw that he was dead already, they brake
not his legs:
34
But one of the soldiers with a spear pierced his side, and forthwith came
there out blood and water.
35
And he that saw it bare record, and his record is true: and he knoweth that
he saith true, that ye might believe.
36
For these things were done, that the scripture should be fulfilled, A bone
of him shall not be broken.
37
And again another scripture saith, They shall look on him whom they pierced.

COME AND SEE
Part two of two
IV. COME and see the blood purchased church of Christ:
A. Jesus Christ is the founder of this church
Matthew 16:18
18
And I say also unto thee, That thou art Peter, and upon this rock I will
build my church; and the gates of hell shall not prevail against it
b. This church was established in
the city of Jerusalem about
the year A.D. 33
Acts 2:47
47
Praising God, and having favour with all the people. And the Lord added to
the church daily such as should be saved.
c. Jesus established only one
church - I will
build my church –
Singular –
Matthew 16:18
d. In
Ephesians 4:4 the church is called
"one body."
4
There is one body, and one Spirit, even as ye are called in one hope of your
calling;
e. In
Colossians 1:18 Paul identifies
the body as the church.
18
And he is the head of the body, the church: who is the beginning, the
firstborn from the dead; that in all things he might have the preeminence.
f. Christ died for the church
Ephesians 5:25
25
Husbands, love your wives, even as Christ also loved the church, and gave
himself for it;
g. The Lord Jesus Christ is the
Savior of the church
Ephesians 5:23
23
For the husband is the head of the wife, even as Christ is the head of the
church: and he is the saviour of the body.
h. The saved are added to the
church
Acts 2:47
47
Praising God, and having favour with all the people. And the Lord added to
the church daily such as should be saved
i. Ephesians 3:21
21
Unto him be glory in the church by Christ Jesus throughout all ages, world
without end. Amen
j. So, Come and see the blood
purchased church of Christ
Acts 20:28
28
Take heed therefore unto yourselves, and to all the flock, over the which
the Holy Ghost hath made you overseers, to feed the church of God, which he
hath purchased with his own blood
V. Come and see God's simple plan
of salvation:
A. The Bible teaches that man is a sinner
Romans 3:23
23
For all have sinned, and come short of the glory of God;
B. In order to be saved God
requires five simple things:
1. One must hear and learn the truth
Romans 10:17
17
So then faith cometh by hearing, and hearing by the word of God.
2. One must believe in God and in
Christ as the Son of God
Hebrews 11:6
6
But without faith it is impossible to please him: for he that cometh to God
must believe that he is, and that he is a rewarder of them that diligently
seek him.
3. One must repent of his sins
Acts 17:30,31
30
And the times of this ignorance God winked at; but now commandeth all men
every where to repent:
31
Because he hath appointed a day, in the which he will judge the world in
righteousness by that man whom he hath ordained; whereof he hath given
assurance unto all men, in that he hath raised him from the dead.
4. One must confess Christ as the
Son of God
Matthew 10:32,33
32
Whosoever therefore shall confess me before men, him will I confess also
before my Father which is in heaven.
33
But whosoever shall deny me before men, him will I also deny before my
Father which is in heaven.
5. One must be baptized to be
saved
Mark 16:15, 16
15
And he said unto them, Go ye into all the world, and preach the gospel to
every creature.
16
He that believeth and is baptized shall be saved; but he that believeth not
shall be damned.
C. When one obeys these simple
commands he is saved from past
sins AND ADDED to the Lord's church.
D. You should take action on these
matters today
II Corinthians 6:2
2
(For he saith, I have heard thee in a time accepted, and in the day of
salvation have I succoured thee: behold, now is the accepted time; behold,
now is the day of salvation.)
E. So, Come and see God's simple plan of salvation.
VI. Come and see what Christianity can do for you:
A. Christianity has done more for our world than anything else
ever could or will do
John 1:12
12
But as many as received him, to them gave he power to become the sons of
God, even to them that believe on his name:
B. Christianity will bring you
salvation from past sins
Romans 6:16-18
16
Know ye not, that to whom ye yield yourselves servants to obey, his servants
ye are to whom ye obey; whether of sin unto death, or of obedience unto
righteousness?
17
But God be thanked, that ye were the servants of sin, but ye have obeyed
from the heart that form of doctrine which was delivered you.
18
Being then made free from sin, ye became the servants of righteousness.
C. Man is a sinner and needs
forgiveness
Ephesians 1:7
7
In whom we have redemption through his blood, the forgiveness of sins,
according to the riches of his grace;
D.
II Thessalonians 1:7-9
7
And to you who are troubled rest with us, when the Lord Jesus shall be
revealed from heaven with his mighty angels,
8
In flaming fire taking vengeance on them that know not God, and that obey
not the gospel of our Lord Jesus Christ:
9
Who shall be punished with everlasting destruction from the presence of the
Lord, and from the glory of his power;
E. Christianity opens many doors
to do good for others
Galatians 6:1,2; 9,10
1
Brethren, if a man be overtaken in a fault, ye which are spiritual, restore
such an one in the spirit of meekness; considering thyself, lest thou also
be tempted.
2
Bear ye one another's burdens, and so fulfil the law of Christ.
9
And let us not be weary in well doing: for in due season we shall reap, if
we faint not.
10
As we have therefore opportunity, let us do good unto all men, especially
unto them who are of the household of faith.
C. Christianity is the way of life
that will lead to heaven
Matthew 7:13,14
13
Enter ye in at the strait gate: for wide is the gate, and broad is the way,
that leadeth to destruction, and many there be which go in thereat:
14
Because strait is the gate, and narrow is the way, which leadeth unto life,
and few there be that find it.
H. The Christian treats others as
he wished to be treated
Luke 6:31
31
And as ye would that men should do to you, do ye also to them likewise.
I. The Christian loves his enemies
Matthew 5:44
44
But I say unto you, Love your enemies, bless them that curse you, do good to
them that hate you, and pray for them which despitefully use you, and
persecute you;
J. The Christian keeps himself
pure
MATTHEW 5:8
8
Blessed are the pure in heart: for they shall see God.
K. The Christian offers himself as
a living sacrifice to God
Romans 12:1,2
1
I beseech you therefore, brethren, by the mercies of God, that ye present
your bodies a living sacrifice, holy, acceptable unto God, which is your
reasonable service.
2
And be not conformed to this world: but be ye transformed by the renewing of
your mind, that ye may prove what is that good, and acceptable, and perfect,
will of God.
L. The end of this life is peace,
joy and the hope of heaven
Colossians 1:5
5
For the hope which is laid up for you in heaven, whereof ye heard before in
the word of the truth of the gospel;
I Peter 1:4
4
To an inheritance incorruptible, and undefiled, and that fadeth not away,
reserved in heaven for you,
M. So, Come and see what Christianity can do for you.
VII. Come and see New Testament worship:
A. The kind of worship God wants is described in
John 4:24
24
God is a Spirit: and they that worship him must worship him in spirit and in
truth.
B. The Creator God, Jehovah is to
be the object of our worship.
C. To worship in spirit means to worship with a sincere heart we
do these spiritual things.
D. To worship in truth suggests that we worship according to
the teachings of the New Testament or that we worship
as early Christians worshipped God.
E. The early Christians worshipped God as:
1. They assembled each Lord's Day to study God's Word
II Timothy 2:15
15
Study to show thyself approved unto God, a workman that needeth not to be
ashamed, rightly dividing the word of truth.
2. They assembled each Lord's Day
to pray
I Thessalonians 5:17
17
Pray without ceasing.
3. They assembled each Lord's Day
to sing. The only instrument used was the "heart."
Ephesians 5:19
19
Speaking to yourselves in psalms and hymns and spiritual songs, singing and
making melody in your heart to the Lord;
4. They assembled each Lord's Day
to give as they had been prospered
I Corinthians 16:2
2
Upon the first day of the week let every one of you lay by him in store, as
God hath prospered him, that there be no gatherings when I come.
5. They assembled each Lord's Day to partake of the Lord's Supper
Acts 20:7
7
And upon the first day of the week, when the disciples came together to
break bread, Paul preached unto them, ready to depart on the morrow; and
continued his speech until midnight.
D. This is the way the early
Christians worshipped on every
Sunday. If WE ARE Christians we will do no more or less
Revelation 22:18,19
18
For I testify unto every man that heareth the words of the prophecy of this
book, If any man shall add unto these things, God shall add unto him the
plagues that are written in this book:
19
And if any man shall take away from the words of the book of this prophecy,
God shall take away his part out of the book of life, and out of the holy
city, and from the things which are written in this book.
G. So, Come and see New Testament
worship.
Conclusion:
A. Come and see that the Bible is inspired of God, that Jesus is the Son of
the living God, the precious blood of Jesus, the blood purchased church of
Christ, God's simple plan of salvation, what Christianity can do for you and
come and see New Testament worship.
B. Come and see what Jesus can mean in your life personally.
C. Come and see the hope we have
of eternal life
Revelation 22:17
17
And the Spirit and the bride say, Come. And let him that heareth say, Come.
And let him that is athirst come. And whosoever will, let him take the water
of life freely.
D. For the Christians, tomorrow
will be better than today.
"Come and see."
