FILLED WITH ALL THE FULLNESS OF GOD
Part One of Two
Ephesians 3:19
19
And to
know the love of Christ, which passeth knowledge, that ye might be filled
with all the fulness of God.
Introduction:
a .
Ephesians 3:19 - “...that you may be filled with
all the fullness of God.”
b. Filled, full - plhrow (pleroo):
1. “to make full, to fill up, i.e. to fill to the full...to render full,
i.e. to complete.”
2. “to fill to the top: so that nothing shall be wanting to full measure,
fill to the brim.”
c. From: pleres -full, i.e. filled up (as opposed to empty):
1. of hollow vessels
2. of a surface, covered in every part
3. of the soul, thoroughly permeated with
4. full, i.e. complete; lacking nothing, perfect
d.
Colossians 2:10 - In Christ we are complete (full)!
10
And ye are complete in him, which is the
head of all principality and power:
e.
Revelation 3:2 - Christ expects to find our works full (complete)!
2
Be watchful, and strengthen the things
which remain, that are ready to die: for I have not found thy works perfect
before God.
Philippians 2:12
12
Wherefore, my beloved, as ye have always
obeyed, not as in my presence only, but now much more in my absence, work
out your own salvation with fear and trembling.
5. Study what we ought to be
filled with and what we must be empty of as Christians.
FULL
1. Knowledge of God’s will
Colossians 1:9
9
For this cause we also, since the day we
heard it, do not cease to pray for you, and to desire that ye might be
filled with the knowledge of his will in all wisdom and spiritual
understanding;
Colossians
4:12
12
Epaphras, who is one of you, a servant of
Christ, saluteth you, always labouring fervently for you in prayers, that ye
may stand perfect and complete in all the will of God.

1. Doctrines and will of man
Matthew
15:7-9
7
Ye hypocrites, well did Esaias prophesy
of you, saying,
8
This people draweth nigh unto me with
their mouth, and honoureth me with their lips; but their heart is far from
me.
Isa 29:13
Mark 7:6
9
But in vain they do worship me, teaching
for doctrines the commandments of men.
Isa 29:13
Mark 7:7

Trust in the LORD with all thine heart; and lean
not unto thine own understanding.

And the child grew, and waxed strong in
spirit, filled with wisdom: and the grace of God was upon him.

2. Earthly wisdom
James
3:13-16
13
Who is a wise man and endued with
knowledge among you? let him shew out of a good conversation his works with
meekness of wisdom.
14
But if ye have bitter envying and strife
in your hearts, glory not, and lie not against the truth.
15
This wisdom descendeth not from above,
but is earthly, sensual, devilish.
16
For where envying and strife is, there is
confusion and every evil work.
·
Colossians 1:9 - Spiritual understanding
9
For this cause we also, since the day we
heard it, do not cease to pray for you, and to desire that ye might be
filled with the knowledge of his will in all wisdom and spiritual
understanding;
·
James 3:13 - 17 - Conduct which conforms to knowledge - Wisdom
17
But the wisdom that is from above is
first pure, then peaceable, gentle, and easy to be intreated, full of mercy
and good fruits, without partiality, and without hypocrisy.
·
II Peter 3:17, 18 - Grow in grace and knowledge - avoid falling
17
Ye therefore, beloved, seeing ye know
these things before, beware lest ye also, being led away with the error of
the wicked, fall from your own stedfastness.
18
But grow in grace, and in the knowledge
of our Lord and Saviour Jesus Christ. To him be glory both now and for ever.
Amen.

Let no man deceive you with vain words:

Corinthians 7:4 - We fill others with comfort and joy when we obey!
4
Great is my boldness of speech toward
you, great is my glorying of you: I am filled with comfort, I am exceeding
joyful in all our tribulation.
·
Hebrews 5:8, 9 - Those who obey are saved
8
Though he were a Son, yet learned he
obedience by the things which he suffered;
9
And being made perfect, he became the
author of eternal salvation unto all them that obey him;
·
Ephesians 5:6 - Do not be deceived:
6
Let no man deceive you with vain words:
for because of these things cometh the wrath of God upon the children of
disobedience.
o - Men of renown can and do disobey
Galatians
2:11-14
11
But when Peter was come to Antioch, I
withstood him to the face, because he was to be blamed.
12
For before that certain came from James,
he did eat with the Gentiles: but when they were come, he withdrew and
separated himself, fearing them which were of the circumcision.
13
And the other Jews dissembled likewise
with him; insomuch that Barnabas also was carried away with their
dissimulation.
14
But when I saw that they walked not
uprightly according to the truth of the gospel, I said unto Peter before
them all, If thou, being a Jew, livest after the manner of Gentiles, and not
as do the Jews, why compellest thou the Gentiles to live as do the Jews?
o - “Grace-unity” - ‘Nobody is perfect!’ - No, but
Romans
6:1-6
1
What shall we say then? Shall we continue
in sin, that grace may abound?
2
God forbid. How shall we, that are dead
to sin, live any longer therein?
3
Know ye not, that so many of us as were
baptized into Jesus Christ were baptized into his death?
4
Therefore we are buried with him by
baptism into death: that like as Christ was raised up from the dead by the
glory of the Father, even so we also should walk in newness of life.
5
For if we have been planted together in
the likeness of his death, we shall be also in the likeness of his
resurrection:
6
Knowing this, that our old man is
crucified with him, that the body of sin might be destroyed, that henceforth
we should not serve sin.
o - “Works-oriented” religion!
James 2:21-26
21
Was not Abraham our father justified by
works, when he had offered Isaac his son upon the altar?
22
Seest thou how faith wrought with his
works, and by works was faith made perfect?
23
And the scripture was fulfilled which
saith,
Abraham believed God, and it was imputed unto him for
righteousness: and he was called
the Friend of God.
Gen 15:6
Rom 4:3
Gal 3:6 Isa 41:8
24
Ye see then how that by works a man is
justified, and not by faith only.
25
Likewise also was not Rahab the harlot
justified by works, when she had received the messengers, and had sent them
out another way?
26
For as the body without the spirit is
dead, so faith without works is dead also.
Luke 17:10
10
So likewise ye, when ye shall have done
all those things which are commanded you, say, We are unprofitable servants:
we have done that which was our duty to do.
o But not works of merit
Ephesians 2:8-10
8
For by grace are ye saved through faith;
and that not of yourselves: it is the gift of God:
9
Not of works, lest any man should boast.
10
For we are his workmanship, created in
Christ Jesus unto good works, which God hath before ordained that we should
walk in them.

John
13:2, 27
2
And supper being ended, the devil having
now put into the heart of Judas Iscariot, Simon's son, to betray him;
3
Jesus knowing that the Father had given
all things into his hands, and that he was come from God, and went to God;
4
He riseth from supper, and laid aside his
garments; and took a towel, and girded himself.
5
After that he poureth water into a bason,
and began to wash the disciples' feet, and to wipe them with the towel
wherewith he was girded.
6
Then cometh he to Simon Peter: and Peter
saith unto him, Lord, dost thou wash my feet?
7
Jesus answered and said unto him, What I
do thou knowest not now; but thou shalt know hereafter.
8
Peter saith unto him, Thou shalt never
wash my feet. Jesus answered him, If I wash thee not, thou hast no part with
me.
9
Simon Peter saith unto him, Lord, not my
feet only, but also my hands and my head.
10
Jesus saith to him, He that is washed
needeth not save to wash his feet, but is clean every whit: and ye are
clean, but not all.
11
For he knew who should betray him;
therefore said he, Ye are not all clean.
12
So after he had washed their feet, and
had taken his garments, and was set down again, he said unto them, Know ye
what I have done to you?
13
Ye call me Master and Lord: and ye say
well; for so I am.
14
If I then, your Lord and Master, have
washed your feet; ye also ought to wash one another's feet.
15
For I have given you an example, that ye
should do as I have done to you.
16
Verily, verily, I say unto you, The
servant is not greater than his lord; neither he that is sent greater than
he that sent him.
17
If ye know these things, happy are ye if
ye do them.
18
I speak not of you all: I know whom I
have chosen: but that the scripture may be fulfilled,
He that eateth bread with me hath lifted up his heel
against me. Ps 41:9
19
Now I tell you before it come, that, when
it is come to pass, ye may believe that I am he.
20
Verily, verily, I say unto you, He that
receiveth whomsoever I send receiveth me; and he that receiveth me receiveth
him that sent me.
21
When Jesus had thus said, he was troubled
in spirit, and testified, and said, Verily, verily, I say unto you, that one
of you shall betray me.
22
Then the disciples looked one on another,
doubting of whom he spake.
23
Now there was leaning on Jesus' bosom one
of his disciples, whom Jesus loved.
24
Simon Peter therefore beckoned to him,
that he should ask who it should be of whom he spake.
25
He then lying on Jesus' breast saith unto
him, Lord, who is it?
26
Jesus answered, He it is, to whom I shall
give a sop, when I have dipped it. And when he had dipped the sop, he gave
it to Judas Iscariot, the son of Simon.
27
And after the sop Satan entered into him.
Then said Jesus unto him, That thou doest, do quickly.
·
Acts 13:52 - Filled with joy and the Holy Spirit
52
And the disciples were filled with joy,
and with the Holy Ghost.
·
Ephesians 5:18 - Not intoxicants
18
And be not drunk with wine, wherein is
excess; but be filled with the Spirit;
Riot
I
Peter 4:1-4
1
Forasmuch then as Christ hath suffered
for us in the flesh, arm yourselves likewise with the same mind: for he that
hath suffered in the flesh hath ceased from sin;
2
That he no longer should live the rest of
his time in the flesh to the lusts of men, but to the will of God.
3
For the time past of our life may suffice
us to have wrought the will of the Gentiles, when we walked in
lasciviousness, lusts, excess of wine, revellings, banquetings, and
abominable idolatries:
4
Wherein they think it strange that ye run
not with them to the same excess of riot, speaking evil of you:
Proverbs
23:31,32
31
Look not thou upon the wine when it is
red, when it giveth his colour in the cup, when it moveth itself aright.
32
At the last it biteth like a serpent, and
stingeth like an adder.
