Four Questions Concerning Salvation

I. Will FEW be saved?
 
 Luke 13:23

a. II Peter 3:9 - it is not God's will for ANY to PERISH

b. I Timothy 2:4 - God wants ALL MEN to be SAVED

c. Luke 13:24-27 - MANY will seek to enter in but will not be ABLE

d. Romans 9:27- only a REMNANT of the multitude

e. Matthew 7:13,14 - few will find the NARROW way

f. Who are the few?

II. WHO then can be saved? - Matthew 19:25 :

a. Acts 2:21; Acts 22:16; Romans 10:13 those who CALL upon the Lord

b. I Peter 4:18 - those who are called RIGHTEOUS

a. II Thessalonians 2:10 - Those who LOVE the TRUTH

b. Hebrews 5:8,9- Those who OBEY Jesus

III. WHAT must I DO to be Saved? - Acts 16:30,31:

a. HEAR and UNDERSTAND - Matthew 13:13-15; Matthew 15:10

b. BELIEVE the GOSPEL - Mark 16:15,16; Romans 10:13-17

c. REPENT of my sins - Acts 17:30

d. CONFESS my FAITH in JESUS - Romans 10:9,10

e. Be BAPTIZED for FORGIVENESS of sins - Acts 2:38; Acts 22:16

f. Remain FAITHFUL to God - Matthew 10:22; Matthew 24:13; Revelation 2:10

IV. How shall we escape, if we neglect so great salvation? - Hebrews 2:3:

a. II Peter 2:4 - God spared not the ANGELS that sinned - Jude 6

b. Jude 5 - Jews once saved but NOT always saved

c. II Peter 2:20-22 -let us not TURN FROM God's word

d. Hebrews 10:35-39 - let us not DRAW BACK unto perdition

What does it mean to be saved by Grace?


I. some Common Misunderstandings about Grace:

A. The grace of God is received by DIRECT operation of the Holy Spirit and brings to man a saving FAITH:

1. John 6:44,45; John 20:30,31

2. Romans 10:17 faith comes by HEARING God's Word

B. The grace of God is IRRESISTIBLE:

1. Matthew 13:15; Acts 28:26-28

2. Acts 7:51

C. We are saved by grace ONLY:

1. Romans 8:24 - we are saved by HOPE

2. Titus 3:5 - we are saved by God's LOVE and MERCY

3. Acts 11:14 - we are saved by WORDS

4. Romans 1:16; I Corinthians 15:1-4 -we are saved by the GOSPEL

5. Hebrews 5:8,9 we are saved by OBEDIENCE

D. Grace and Law are mutually EXCLUSIVE (they cannot co-exist):

1. Comes from a misunderstanding of Romans 6:14

2. Romans 4:15 - where there is no LAW, there is no TRANSGRESSION

3. Romans 5:13 - sin is not charged where there is no LAW

4. Romans 3:23 - ALL have sinned and fallen short of God's glory

5. I John 3:4 - SIN is a transgression of the LAW.

E. Man cannot FALL from the grace of God:

1. Galatians 5:4 - Ye HAVE FALLEN from grace (written to the churches of Galatia- Galatians 1:2)

3. II Corinthians 6:1,2 - the grace of God can be received in VAIN

4. Hebrews 12:14,15

II. What it Means to be Saved by the Grace of God:

A. Titus 3:3-7:

1. We were formerly disobedient- Titus 3:3

2. God's love appeared (was made known) - Titus 3:4

3. Saved by God's mercy- Titus 3:5

1. by the WASHING of regeneration - literally washing of new birth- John 3:1-5

2. the RENEWING of the Holy Spirit (we are renewed by the Holy Spirit- Ii Corinthians 5:17

4. We are then JUSTIFIED by God grace and made heirs of the hope of eternal life- Titus 3:7

B. Ephesians 2:1-10:

1. Those once dead in sin are now made alive - Ephesians 2:1-3

2. God's LOVE and MERCY appeared - Ephesians 2:4

3. God made us alive TOGETHER with Christ - Ephesians 2:5

4. God RAISED us up with Christ- Ephesians 2:6

5. You are saved by GRACE through FAITH - Ephesians 2:8-10

C. We are saved by God's Grace when we OBEY the GOSPEL:

1. Matthew 7:21

2. Mark 16:15,16

3. I Corinthians 15:1-4
