CHOOSING SIDES
Joshua 24:14,15
14
Now therefore fear the LORD, and serve him in
sincerity and in truth: and put away the gods which your fathers served on
the other side of the flood, and in Egypt; and serve ye the LORD.
15
And if it seem evil unto you to serve the LORD,
choose you this day whom ye will serve; whether the gods which your fathers
served that were on the other side of the flood, or the gods of the
Amorites, in whose land ye dwell: but as for me and my house, we will serve
the LORD.
Introduction:
a. Every day all of us must make numerous choices.
1. Where do we go?
2. what do we eat?
3. what shall we wear?
b. Did you ever play games when you were a child where you had to choose
sides?
C.. WE must choose sides as to whether to follow Jesus or Satan.
d. WILL WE CHOOSE THE WINNING SIDE?
I. SOME WHO CHOSE THE WRONG SIDE:
a. Lot -
Genesis 13:10-13
10
And Lot lifted up his eyes, and beheld all the
plain of Jordan, that it was well watered every where, before the LORD
destroyed Sodom and Gomorrah, even as the garden of the LORD, like the land
of Egypt, as thou comest unto Zoar.

Then Lot chose him all the plain of Jordan; and
Lot journeyed east: and they separated themselves the one from the other.

Abram dwelled in the land of Canaan, and Lot
dwelled in the cities of the plain, and pitched his tent toward Sodom.

But the men of Sodom were wicked and sinners
before the LORD exceedingly.
b. Esau -
Genesis 25:29-34

And Jacob sod pottage: and Esau came from the
field, and he was faint:
30
And Esau said to Jacob, Feed me, I pray thee, with
that same red pottage; for I am faint: therefore was his name called Edom.

And Jacob said, Sell me this day thy birthright.

And Esau said, Behold, I am at the point to die:
and what profit shall this birthright do to me?

And Jacob said, Swear to me this day; and he sware
unto him: and he sold his birthright unto Jacob.

Then Jacob gave Esau bread and pottage of lentils;
and he did eat and drink, and rose up, and went his way: thus Esau despised
his birthright.
c. The Judeans-
Jeremiah 6:16

Acts 24:24-27

wife Drusilla, which was a Jewess, he sent for Paul, and heard him
concerning the faith in Christ.

And as he reasoned of righteousness, temperance,
and judgment to come, Felix trembled, and answered, Go thy way for this
time; when I have a convenient season, I will call for thee.

He hoped also that money should have been given
him of Paul, that he might loose him: wherefore he sent for him the oftener,
and communed with him.

But after two years Porcius Festus came into
Felix' room: and Felix, willing to shew the Jews a pleasure, left Paul
bound.
II. SOME WHO CHOSE THE RIGHT SIDE:
a. The Israelites in Joshua's time -Joshua
24:16-18
16
And the people answered and said, God forbid that
we should forsake the LORD, to serve other gods;
17
For the LORD our God, he it is that brought us up
and our fathers out of the land of Egypt, from the house of bondage, and
which did those great signs in our sight, and preserved us in all the way
wherein we went, and among all the people through whom we passed:
18
And the LORD drave out from before us all the
people, even the Amorites which dwelt in the land: therefore will we also
serve the LORD; for he is our God.
Joshua 24:31
31
And Israel served the LORD all the days of Joshua,
and all the days of the elders that overlived Joshua, and which had known
all the works of the LORD, that he had done for Israel.
b. THE APOSTLES -
Mark 10:28-30

Then Peter began to say unto him, Lo, we have left
all, and have followed thee.

And Jesus answered and said, Verily I say unto
you, There is no man that hath left house, or brethren, or sisters, or
father, or mother, or wife, or children, or lands, for my sake, and the
gospel's,

lands, with persecutions; and in the world to come eternal life.
c. The obedient sheep -

d. The apostle Paul -
II
Timothy 4:6-8

For I am now ready to be offered, and the time of

Henceforth there is laid up for me a crown of
righteousness, which the Lord, the righteous judge, shall give me at that

e. Those who abounded in the work of the Lord-

f. The faithful-

III. WHO SHALL WE CHOOSE TO FOLLOW?
a. Can’t choose both sides –
Matthew 6:24

No man can serve two masters: for either he will
hate the one, and love the other; or else he will hold to the one, and
despise the other. Ye cannot serve God and mammon.
James
1:8

A double minded man is unstable in all his ways.
b. God hates indecision -
Revelation 3:15,16
15
I know thy works, that thou art neither cold nor
hot: I would thou wert cold or hot.
16
So then because thou art lukewarm, and neither
cold nor hot, I will spue thee out of my mouth.
c. Jesus made it clear, We are either for or against Him -
Matthew 12:30

He that is not with me is against me; and he that
gathereth not with me scattereth abroad.
d. Choose life not death -

Timothy 6:12

Fight the good fight of faith, lay hold on eternal
life, whereunto thou art also called, and hast professed a good profession
before many witnesses.

And this is the promise that he hath promised us,
even eternal life.
e. We shall all face the judgment -

And death and hell were cast into the lake of
fire. This is the second death.

And whosoever was not found written in the book of
life was cast into the lake of fire.
f. "Whatsoever a man soweth, that shall he also reap" -
Galatians 6:7-10

Be not deceived; God is not mocked: for whatsoever
a man soweth, that shall he also reap.
8
For he that soweth to his flesh shall of the flesh
reap corruption; but he that soweth to the Spirit shall of the Spirit reap
life everlasting.
9
And let us not be weary in well doing: for in due
season we shall reap, if we faint not.
10
As we have therefore opportunity, let us do good
unto all men, especially unto them who are of the household of faith.
CONCLUSION:
a. Precious soul, what will be your choice. Before us stands Christ with
eternal life to offer--a life without pain or tears—an eternal life of
absolute joy!
b, SATAN OFFERS eternal suffering with no end.
c. CHOOSE YOU THIS DAY WHOM YOU WILL SERVE
