The Great Commission

Part Three
THE PLACE: ALL THE WORLD

Introduction:

a. five accounts of the Great Commission are in:

Matthew 28

 Mark 16

 Luke 24

 John 20

 Acts 1

b. ten subjects relating to the Great Commission in these five chapters

c. three points that will help us understand the importance of this third lesson

i. The significance of Jesus’ words:

a. All the world

1. All nations

2. Every creature

3. Among all nations

4. To Jerusalem, Judea, Samaria, all the earth

b. All these terms were used by the Lord in His teaching during the forty days after His resurrection:

1. These terms are fitting because He died for all people in all places during all of history

2. It is His will for all of us to be saved

a. They started in Jerusalem and Judea, just as Jesus had commanded in the Great Commission

A. There is no distinction in Christ

b. The simple gospel is the only thing that can save sinful people

Conclusion:

a. Multiplied millions of those who are now living have never even heard the name of Jesus, much less the pure gospel!

b. What are you and I doing about obeying the command to get the truth to everyone on earth before they and we die?

THE METHOD: TEACH

INTRODUCTION:

b. Let us ask and answer six questions about the “method” we must use to fulfill the Great Commission.

i. What does it mean to “teach:?

A. Teach:

1. Make disciples; to make learners [matheeteno]

B. Preach:

1.To tell or announce thoroughly; publish abroad [diangello]

II. WHAT do we teach?

A. The gospel [good news]

B. The way, the truth, and the life

E. The doctrine

III. Why this method?

There will be no visions, miraculous dreams, visits from angels, “miracles of salvation,” or direct communication from God.

A. Sinners cannot be saved through  feelings, Calvinism, Universalism, or “testifying.”

B. Few will study on their own – we must teach and preach

IV. UNDER what circumstances should we teach?

A. Good circumstances:

1. Parable of the sower [good ground hearer]

VI. HOW long should we teach?

a. Until all hear

a. God’s chosen method for fulfilling the Great Commission is teaching!
