“IF GOD SPARED NOT”
II Peter 2:4-9

Introduction:

a. It is the nature of man to resist the idea that God would punish those who are disobedient to Him. After all, God loves all-so, how could he eternally punish those that he loves?

b. Thus, man justifies the theory that God will somehow bring each of us back from this destruction, and we will all go to heaven.

c. No one will be lost-well, maybe someone like Saddam. What does God say?

I. HE SPARED NOT THE ANGELS THAT SINNED:
A. Angels are created beings - Psalm 8:4-5 Luke 20:36
B. Those that sinned were cast in everlasting bonds till judgment day- Jude 6
C. They were not to be given a second chance

II. HE SPARED NOT THE OLD WORLD:
A. The world before the flood were exceedingly sinful - Genesis 6:5-7
B. Only eight souls were saved - I Peter 3:20

III. HE SPARED NOT SODOM & GOMORRAH:
a. All from these cities & the cities about them were destroyed by fire -Jude 7
b. Fire rained from heaven to destroy all Luke 17:28,29

IV. HE WILL SPARE NOT THE SINNER IN THE DAY OF JUDGMENT:
a. He will reserve the unjust unto the day of judgment – Jude 9, 14,15
b. All will not enjoy peace in death Luke 16:19-31 Matt. 7:21-23
c. Everyone will be judged according to their own works! - Matthew 16:27
d. “Woe unto them!” - Jude 11-13

V. WE MUST ALL APPEAR BEFORE THE JUDGMENT SEAT OF CHRIST:
a. Whether we are good or bad – ii Corinthians 5:10
b. The good will be separated from the bad - Matthew 25:31-46
c. Rewards will be given to the faithful- ii Timothy 4:6-8
d. Eternal punishment will be given to the disobedient- ii Thessalonians 1:7-9
e. All will be judged out of the books- Revelation 20:12 ; John 12:48

CONCLUSION:

a. friens, is it not time for us to make ready for this judgment – ii Corinthians 6:2 ?

b. What we do in this life will determine where we spend eternity.

c. We can waste this life and receive eternal punishment, or we can live our lives foChrist and inherit all the joys of an eternal heaven. –Romans 2:6-10


WHAT SHALL IT BE?

WHY THEY TURNED AWAY FROM GOD

Jeremiah 6:10-16


Introduction:

a. Jeremiah, the “weeping prophet”, was sent to warn God's people to return to the Lord.

b. In these verses, the prophet describes the departure of Israel in five steps.

c. The spiritual attitudes that led to their downfall are found today in the religious world.

d. the five steps that led them to turn away from God still plague the children of God even at this present time.

I. THEY REFUSED TO LISTEN TO THE WORD OF GOD:

A.. THEY refuse to hear the word of the Lord - Jeremiah 6:10, 23 - Isaiah 30:9-10

B. This was still true when Jesus gave his SERMONS - MATTHEW 13:13-15

C. Some people are willingly ignorant - ii Peter 3:5

II. THEY WERE OBSESSED WITH MATERIAL THINGS:

A. From the least to the greatest they are given to COVETOUSNESS - JEREMIAH 6:13

B. We are not judged by the things which we possess - Luke 12:15

C. These Israelites should have been laying up treasures in HEAVEN - Matthew 6:19,20

III. THEY DELUDED THEMSELVES WITH LIES:

A. They asked the prophets to preach lies to them - JEREMIAH 6:14 - Isaiah 30:9-11

B. If we refuse the truth, God will send us a lie - ii Thessalonians 2:10-11

C. We still have religious people with “itching ears” - II Timothy 4:3,4

IV. THEY WERE NOT ASHAMED, COULD NOT BLUSH:

A. “Were they ashamed when they had committed abomination?” - Jeremiah 6:15

B. Why did Adam & Eve hid from God? - Genesis 3:8-10

C. For some, their god is their belly-they glory in their shame - Philippians 3:18-19

V. THEY REJECTED THE ONLY POSSIBLE CURE:

A. “Ask for the old paths...and walk therein” - Jeremiah 6:16

B. The church at Ephesus had “left their first love” - Revelation 2:4,5

C. The gospel of Christ is our only cure - Mark 16:15,16 - II Thessalonians 1:7-9

CONCLUSION:

A. IF YOU HAVE TURNED AWAY FROM THE LORD, TURN BACK!

B. IF YOU HAVE NEVER TURNED TO HIM, WHY NOT TURN RIGHT NOW?
