THE SHEEP OF THE SHEPHERD
JOHN
10:3-5
3
To him the porter openeth; and the sheep hear his voice: and he calleth his
own sheep by name, and leadeth them out.
4
And when he putteth forth his own sheep, he goeth before them, and the sheep
follow him: for they know his voice.
5
And a stranger will they not follow, but will flee from him: for they know
not the voice of strangers.
INTRODUCTION:
a. Many claim to be sheep in the fold of the great shepherd, Jesus Christ.
It is astonishing to examine just the number of religious people in the
world that lay claim to the benefits of the Lord
b. Consider three areas that will always be true of the sheep of the
shepherds.
I. THEY FOCUS ON THE SHEPHERD'S VOICE:
A. The shepherd knows his sheep and the know his voice
John
10:3
3
To him the porter openeth; and the sheep hear his voice: and he calleth his
own sheep by name, and leadeth them out.
13
The hireling fleeth, because he is an hireling, and careth not for the
sheep.
16
And other sheep I have, which are not of this fold: them also I must bring,
and they shall hear my voice; and there shall be one fold, and one shepherd.
B. His true sheep will respect the "voice" of the shepherd
John 8:31
31
Then said Jesus to those Jews which believed on him, If ye continue in my
word, then are ye my disciples indeed;
John 12:48, 49
48
He that rejecteth me, and receiveth not my words, hath one that judgeth him:
the word that I have spoken, the same shall judge him in the last day.
49
For I have not spoken of myself; but the Father which sent me, he gave me a
commandment, what I should say, and what I should speak.
John 10:27
27
My sheep hear my voice, and I know them, and they follow me:
I Thessalonians 5:21
21
Prove all things; hold fast that which is good.
II. THEY FOLLOW THE SHEPHERD'S LEAD:
A. His sheep follow him!
1. John 10:4
4
And when he putteth forth his own sheep, he goeth before them, and the sheep
follow him: for they know his voice.
2. Psalm 23:1,2
1
The LORD is my shepherd; I shall not want.
2
He maketh me to lie down in green pastures: he leadeth me beside the still
waters.
B. More than just hearing:
1. Luke 6:46
46
And why call ye me, Lord, Lord, and do not the things which I say?
2. John 6:63
63
It is the spirit that quickeneth; the flesh profiteth nothing: the words
that I speak unto you, they are spirit, and they are life.
3. Mark 4:14-20
14
The sower soweth the word.
15
And these are they by the way side, where the word is sown; but when they
have heard, Satan cometh immediately, and taketh away the word that was sown
in their hearts.
16
And these are they likewise which are sown on stony ground; who, when they
have heard the word, immediately receive it with gladness;
17
And have no root in themselves, and so endure but for a time: afterward,
when affliction or persecution ariseth for the word's sake, immediately they
are offended.
18
And these are they which are sown among thorns; such as hear the word,
19
And the cares of this world, and the deceitfulness of riches, and the lusts
of other things entering in, choke the word, and it becometh unfruitful.
20
And these are they which are sown on good ground; such as hear the word, and
receive it, and bring forth fruit, some thirtyfold, some sixty, and some an
hundred.
4. James 1:21-27
21
Wherefore lay apart all filthiness and superfluity of naughtiness, and
receive with meekness the engrafted word, which is able to save your souls.
22
But be ye doers of the word, and not hearers only, deceiving your own
selves.
23
For if any be a hearer of the word, and not a doer, he is like unto a man
beholding his natural face in a glass:
24
For he beholdeth himself, and goeth his way, and straightway forgetteth what
manner of man he was.
25
But whoso looketh into the perfect law of liberty, and continueth therein,
he being not a forgetful hearer, but a doer of the work, this man shall be
blessed in his deed.
26
If any man among you seem to be religious, and bridleth not his tongue, but
deceiveth his own heart, this man's religion is vain.
27
Pure religion and undefiled before God and the Father is this, To visit the
fatherless and widows in their affliction, and to keep himself unspotted
from the world.
James

C. Some would choose not to follow
John 6:66
66
From that time many of his disciples went back, and walked no more with him.
Hebrews 10:1-39
II Thessalonians 1:7-9
7
And to you who are troubled rest with us, when the Lord Jesus shall be
revealed from heaven with his mighty angels,
8
In flaming fire taking vengeance on them that know not God, and that obey
not the gospel of our Lord Jesus Christ:
9
Who shall be punished with everlasting destruction from the presence of the
Lord, and from the glory of his power;
III. THEY FLEE FROM A STRANGER'S CALL:
A. They will not follow the voice of the stranger
John 10:5-8
5
And a stranger will they not follow, but will flee from him: for they know
not the voice of strangers.
6
This parable spake Jesus unto them: but they understood not what things they
were which he spake unto them.
7
Then said Jesus unto them again, Verily, verily, I say unto you, I am the
door of the sheep.
8
All that ever came before me are thieves and robbers: but the sheep did not
hear them.
Exodus 19:5
5
Now therefore, if ye will obey my voice indeed, and keep my covenant, then
ye shall be a peculiar treasure unto me above all people: for all the earth
is mine:
Jeremiah 42:6
6
Whether it be good, or whether it be evil, we will obey the voice of the
LORD our God, to whom we send thee; that it may be well with us, when we
obey the voice of the LORD our God.
Matthew 4:1-11
1
Then was Jesus led up of the spirit into the wilderness to be tempted of the
devil.
2
And when he had fasted forty days and forty nights, he was afterward an
hungred.
3
And when the tempter came to him, he said, If thou be the Son of God,
command that these stones be made bread.
4
But he answered and said, It is written, Man shall not live by bread alone,
but by every word that proceedeth out of the mouth of God.
Dt

Luke
4:4
5
Then the devil taketh him up into the holy city, and setteth him on a
pinnacle of the temple,
6
And saith unto him, If thou be the Son of God, cast thyself down: for it is
written, He shall give his angels charge concerning thee: and in their hands
they shall bear thee up, lest at any time thou dash thy foot against a
stone.

God.

6:16
Luke 4:12
8
Again, the devil taketh him up into an exceeding high mountain, and sheweth
him all the kingdoms of the world, and the glory of them;
9
And saith unto him, All these things will I give thee, if thou wilt fall
down and worship me.
10
Then saith Jesus unto him, Get thee hence, Satan: for it is written, Thou
shalt worship the Lord thy God, and him only shalt thou serve.
Dt
6:13
Luke
4:8
11
Then the devil leaveth him, and, behold, angels came and ministered unto
him.
B. No other place to go for eternal life
John 6:68, 69
68
Then Simon Peter answered him, Lord, to whom shall we go? thou hast the
words of eternal life.
69
And we believe and are sure that thou art that Christ, the Son of the living
God.
Acts 4:10-12
10
Be it known unto you all, and to all the people of Israel, that by the name
of Jesus Christ of Nazareth, whom ye crucified, whom God raised from the
dead, even by him doth this man stand here before you whole.

IV. THEY RECEIVE A GREAT BLESSING IN FOLLOWING THE SHEPHERD:
A. The shepherd gives complete safety and satisfaction
John 10:9,10
9
I am the door: by me if any man enter in, he shall be saved, and shall go in
and out, and find pasture.
10
The thief cometh not, but for to steal, and to kill, and to destroy: I am
come that they might have life, and that they might have it more abundantly.
Psalm 23:4-6
4
Yea, though I walk through the valley of the shadow of death, I will fear no
evil: for thou art with me; thy rod and thy staff they comfort me.
5
Thou preparest a table before me in the presence of mine enemies: thou
anointest my head with oil; my cup runneth over.
6
Surely goodness and mercy shall follow me all the days of my life: and I
will dwell in the house of the LORD for ever.
Psalms 24
1
The earth is the LORD's, and the fulness thereof; the world, and they that
dwell therein.
1
Cor 10:26, 28
2
For he hath founded it upon the seas, and established it upon the floods.
3
Who shall ascend into the hill of the LORD? or who shall stand in his holy
place?
4
He that hath clean hands, and a pure heart; who hath not lifted up his soul
unto vanity, nor sworn deceitfully.
5
He shall receive the blessing from the LORD, and righteousness from the God
of his salvation.
6
This is the generation of them that seek him, that seek thy face, O Jacob.
Selah.
7
Lift up your heads, O ye gates; and be ye lift up, ye everlasting doors; and
the King of glory shall come in.
8
Who is this King of glory? The LORD strong and mighty, the LORD mighty in
battle.
9
Lift up your heads, O ye gates; even lift them up, ye everlasting doors; and
the King of glory shall come in.
10
Who is this King of glory? The LORD of hosts, he is the King of glory.
Selah.
B. Our great shepherd gives us peace of mind and a home in Heaven
John 14:1-6
1
Let not your heart be troubled: ye believe in God, believe also in me.
2
In my Father's house are many mansions: if it were not so, I would have told
you. I go to prepare a place for you.
3
And if I go and prepare a place for you, I will come again, and receive you
unto myself; that where I am, there ye may be also.
4
And whither I go ye know, and the way ye know.
5
Thomas saith unto him, Lord, we know not whither thou goest; and how can we
know the way?
6
Jesus saith unto him, I am the way, the truth, and the life: no man cometh
unto the Father, but by me.
27
Peace I leave with you, my peace I give unto you: not as the world giveth,
give I unto you. Let not your heart be troubled, neither let it be afraid.
I Peter 1:3,4
3
Blessed be the God and Father of our Lord Jesus Christ, which according to
his abundant mercy hath begotten us again unto a lively hope by the
resurrection of Jesus Christ from the dead,
4
To an inheritance incorruptible, and undefiled, and that fadeth not away,
reserved in heaven for you,
CONCLUSION:
A gentleman traveling in Syria, relates how he stopped to watch three
shepherds who were at a well watering their flocks. The three flocks were
all mingled together at the watering place. The traveler could see no
difference between them, and he wondered how they would get them separated
again without great trouble. But presently one of the shepherds stood forth
and called out, "Menah," the Arabic for "Follow me," and sure enough thirty
sheep immediately separated themselves from the indiscriminate mass and
began to follow the shepherd up the hill.
Then, a second shepherd lifted the cry, "Menah," and a second flock
separated themselves and started after him, while the rest of the sheep
remained as unconcerned as if no one had spoken at all.
The traveler was so astonished that as he saw the third shepherd preparing
to depart, laying his hand to his crook and beginning to gather a few dates
fallen from a palm beneath which he had been resting, he stepped up to him
and asked: "Would your sheep follow me if I called them?" The man shook his
head. "Give me your shepherd's cloak and crook and let me try." The traveler
said He even wound the shepherds turban round his head and standing forth
began to cry, "Menah, Menah!" but no sheep stirred. They only blinked at him
lazily in the sunshine.
"Do they never follow any one
but you?" asked the traveler. Only when a sheep is sick; then the silly
creature follows any one, " the shepherd said."
Whose voice are you following?

Christ Is Now
Reigning On David’s Throne
I. David did not have a throne. God raised him up as king over Israel, but
the throne was God’s It is
spoken of as David’s throne in the same sense as the law of the O.T. is
spoken of as the Law of Moses.
32
And king David said, Call me Zadok the priest, and Nathan the prophet, and
Benaiah the son of Jehoiada. And they came before the king.
33
The king also said unto them, Take with you the servants of your lord, and
cause Solomon my son to ride upon mine own mule, and bring him down to
Gihon:
34
And let Zadok the priest and Nathan the prophet anoint him there king over
Israel: and blow ye with the trumpet, and say, God save king Solomon.
35
Then ye shall come up after him, that he may come and sit upon my throne;
for he shall be king in my stead: and I have appointed him to be ruler
over Israel and over Judah.
36
And Benaiah the son of Jehoiada answered the king, and said, Amen: the
LORD God of my lord the king say so too.
37
As the LORD hath been with my lord the king, even so be he with Solomon,
and make his throne greater than the throne of my lord king David.
38
So Zadok the priest, and Nathan the prophet, and Benaiah the son of
Jehoiada, and the Cherethites, and the Pelethites, went down, and caused
Solomon to ride upon king David's mule, and brought him to Gihon.
39
And Zadok the priest took an horn of oil out of the tabernacle, and
anointed Solomon. And they blew the trumpet; and all the people said, God
save king Solomon.
40
And all the people came up after him, and the people piped with pipes, and
rejoiced with great joy, so that the earth rent with the sound of them.
22
And did eat and drink before the LORD on that day with great gladness. And
they made Solomon the son of David king the second time, and anointed him
unto the LORD to be the chief governor, and Zadok to be priest.
23
Then Solomon sat on the throne of the LORD as king instead of David his
father, and prospered; and all Israel obeyed him.

Then Amaziah the priest of Bethel sent to Jeroboam king of Israel,
saying, Amos hath conspired against thee in the midst of the house of
Israel: the land is not able to bear all his words.
11
For thus Amos saith, Jeroboam shall die by the sword, and Israel shall
surely be led away captive out of their own land.
12
Also Amaziah said unto Amos, O thou seer, go, flee thee away into the
land of Judah, and there eat bread, and prophesy there:
13
But prophesy not again any more at Bethel: for it is the king's
chapel, and it is the king's court.
14
Then answered Amos, and said to Amaziah, I was no prophet, neither was
I a prophet's son; but I was an herdman, and a gatherer of sycomore fruit:

IV. Isaiah said that Christ would reign on the throne of David forever
-Isaiah 9:6-8, and he is now reigning.
6
For unto us a child is born, unto us a son is given: and the
government shall be upon his shoulder: and his name shall be called
Wonderful, Counsellor, The mighty God, The everlasting Father, The Prince
of Peace.
7
Of the increase of his government and peace there shall be no end,
upon the throne of David, and upon his kingdom, to order it, and to
establish it with judgment and with justice from henceforth even for ever.
The zeal of the LORD of hosts will perform this.
8
The Lord sent a word into Jacob, and it hath lighted upon Israel.
V. Gabriel told Mary that God would give Jesus the throne of David, and he
would reign over the house of Jacob forever; and of his kingdom there
shall be no end
31
And, behold, thou shalt conceive in thy womb, and bring forth a son,
and shalt call his name JESUS.
32
He shall be great, and shall be called the Son of the Highest: and the
Lord God shall give unto him the throne of his father David:
33
And he shall reign over the house of Jacob for ever; and of his
kingdom there shall be no end.
The house of Jacob today is the new Israel
of God, the church
28
For he is not a Jew, which is one outwardly; neither is that
circumcision, which is outward in the flesh:
29
But he is a Jew, which is one inwardly; and circumcision is that of
the heart, in the spirit, and not in the letter; whose praise is not of
men, but of God.
11
In whom also ye are circumcised with the circumcision made without
hands, in putting off the body of the sins of the flesh by the
circumcision of Christ:

13
And you, being dead in your sins and the uncircumcision of your flesh,
hath he quickened together with him, having forgiven you all trespasses;
2
Beware of dogs, beware of evil workers, beware of the concision.
3
For we are the circumcision, which worship God in the spirit, and
rejoice in Christ Jesus, and have no confidence in the flesh.
4
Though I might also have confidence in the flesh. If any other man
thinketh that he hath whereof he might trust in the flesh, I more:
5
Circumcised the eighth day, of the stock of Israel, of the tribe of
Benjamin, an Hebrew of the Hebrews; as touching the law, a Pharisee;
6
Concerning zeal, persecuting the church; touching the righteousness
which is in the law, blameless.
His kingdom is the church which he is reigning over
18
And I say also unto thee, That thou art Peter, and upon this rock I will
build my church; and the gates of hell shall not prevail against it.
19
And I will give unto thee the keys of the kingdom of heaven: and
whatsoever thou shalt bind on earth shall be bound in heaven: and
whatsoever thou shalt loose on earth shall be loosed in heaven.
22
For as in Adam all die, even so in Christ shall all be made alive.
23
But every man in his own order: Christ the firstfruits; afterward they

The last enemy that shall be destroyed is death.
VI. When king Jehoiachin was carried captive to Babylon
8
Jehoiachin was eighteen years old when he began to reign, and he
reigned in Jerusalem three months. And his mother's name was Nehushta, the
daughter of Elnathan of Jerusalem.
9
And he did that which was evil in the sight of the LORD, according to
all that his father had done.
10
At that time the servants of Nebuchadnezzar king of Babylon came up
against Jerusalem, and the city was besieged.
11
And Nebuchadnezzar king of Babylon came against the city, and his
servants did besiege it.
12
And Jehoiachin the king of Judah went out to the king of Babylon, he,
and his mother, and his servants, and his princes, and his officers: and
the king of Babylon took him in the eighth year of his reign.
13
And he carried out thence all the treasures of the house of the LORD,
and the treasures of the king's house, and cut in pieces all the vessels
of gold which Solomon king of Israel had made in the temple of the LORD,
as the LORD had said.
14
And he carried away all Jerusalem, and all the princes, and all the
mighty men of valor, even ten thousand captives, and all the craftsmen and
smiths: none remained, save the poorest sort of the people of the land.
15
And he carried away Jehoiachin to Babylon, and the king's mother, and
the king's wives, and his officers, and the mighty of the land, those
carried he into captivity from Jerusalem to Babylon.
16
And all the men of might, even seven thousand, and craftsmen and
smiths a thousand, all that were strong and apt for war, even them the
king of Babylon brought captive to Babylon.
17
And the king of Babylon made Mattaniah his father's brother king in
his stead, and changed his name to Zedekiah.
Jeremiah said, “Write this man as childless, (R S V) a man who shall not
succeed in his days; for none of his off spring shall succeed in sitting
on the throne of David and ruling again in Judah”
24
As I live, saith the LORD, though Coniah the son of Jehoiakim king of
Judah were the signet upon my right hand, yet would I pluck thee thence;
25
And I will give thee into the hand of them that seek thy life, and
into the hand of them whose face thou fearest, even into the hand of
Nebuchadrezzar king of Babylon, and into the hand of the Chaldeans.
26
And I will cast thee out, and thy mother that bare thee, into another
country, where ye were not born; and there shall ye die.
27
But to the land whereunto they desire to return, thither shall they
not return.
28
Is this man Coniah a despised broken idol? is he a vessel wherein is
no pleasure? wherefore are they cast out, he and his seed, and are cast
into a land which they know not?
29
O earth, earth, earth, hear the word of the LORD.
30
Thus saith the LORD, Write ye this man childless, a man that shall not
prosper in his days: for no man of his seed shall prosper, sitting upon
the throne of David, and ruling any more in Judah.
This
king is called by three different names,
6
So Jehoiakim slept with his fathers: and Jehoiachin his son reigned in
his stead.
7
And the king of Egypt came not again any more out of his land: for the
king of Babylon had taken from the river of Egypt unto the river Euphrates
all that pertained to the king of Egypt.
8
Jehoiachin was eighteen years old when he began to reign, and he
reigned in Jerusalem three months. And his mother's name was Nehushta, the
daughter of Elnathan of Jerusalem.
16
And the sons of Jehoiakim: Jeconiah his son, Zedekiah his son.
17
And the sons of Jeconiah; Assir, Salathiel his son,
12
And after they were brought to Babylon, Jechonias begat Salathiel; and
Salathiel begat Zorobabel;
24
As I live, saith the LORD, though Coniah the son of Jehoiakim king of
Judah were the signet upon my right hand, yet would I pluck thee thence;
Christ is a descendant of this king
12
And after they were brought to Babylon, Jechonias begat Salathiel; and
Salathiel begat Zorobabel;
therefore he
cannot reign in Judah, the place that the Rapture Preachers and the Premillenarian say that he will come back and reign as an earthly king for
a 1,000 years. In view of
Ephesians 1:19-23, why would he want to come to
earth and reign as an earthly king?
19
And what is the exceeding greatness of his power to us-ward who
believe, according to the working of his mighty power,
20
Which he wrought in Christ, when he raised him from the dead, and set
him at his own right hand in the heavenly places,
21
Far above all principality, and power, and might, and dominion, and
every name that is named, not only in this world, but also in that which
is to come:

hath put all things under his feet, and gave him to be the head over

VII. Jeremiah also said that God would raise up to David a righteous
Branch (Christ) and that he would reign as king
5
Behold, the days come, saith the LORD, that I will raise unto David a
righteous Branch, and a King shall reign and prosper, and shall execute
judgment and justice in the earth.
6
In his days Judah shall be saved, and Israel shall dwell safely: and
this is his name whereby he shall be called, THE LORD OUR RIGHTEOUSNESS.
He is
now reigning over his kingdom
18
And I say also unto thee, That thou art Peter, and upon this rock I
will build my church; and the gates of hell shall not prevail against it.
22
For as in Adam all die, even so in Christ shall all be made alive.
23
But every man in his own order: Christ the firstfruits; afterward they
that are Christ's at his coming.
24
Then cometh the end, when he shall have delivered up the kingdom to
God, even the Father; when he shall have put down all rule and all
authority and power.
25
For he must reign, till he hath put all enemies under his feet.

VIII. Zechariah said, “Behold, the man whose name is the Branch” (Christ)
would build the temple of the Lord, (the church),
16
Know ye not that ye are the temple of God, and that the Spirit of God
dwelleth in you?
17
If any man defile the temple of God, him shall God destroy; for the
temple of God is holy, which temple ye are.
19
What? know ye not that your body is the temple of the Holy Ghost which
is in you, which ye have of God, and ye are not your own?
20
For ye are bought with a price: therefore glorify God in your body,
and in your spirit, which are God's.
and that he would sit and rule on his throne and be
a priest on his throne
12
And speak unto him, saying, Thus speaketh the LORD of hosts, saying,
Behold the man whose name is The BRANCH; and he shall grow up out of his
place, and he shall build the temple of the LORD:
13
Even he shall build the temple of the LORD; and he shall bear the
glory, and shall sit and rule upon his throne; and he shall be a priest
upon his throne: and the counsel of peace shall be between them both.
Note that Christ would rule
upon his throne and be a priest upon his throne at the same time. He is
reigning as our high priest now
24
Whom God hath raised up, having loosed the pains of death: because it
was not possible that he should be holden of it.
25
For David speaketh concerning him,
I
foresaw the Lord always before my face, for he is on my right hand, that I
should not be moved: Ps 16:8
26
Therefore did my heart rejoice, and my tongue was glad; moreover also
my flesh shall rest in hope:

Because thou wilt not leave my soul in hell, neither wilt thou suffer
thine Holy One to see corruption.

of joy with thy countenance.
Ps 16:11
29
Men and brethren, let me freely speak unto you of the patriarch David,
that he is both dead and buried, and his sepulchre is with us unto this
day.

of the fruit of his loins, according to the flesh, he would raise up
Christ to sit on his throne; Ps 132:11

Sam 7:12,13

He seeing this before spake of the resurrection of Christ, that
his soul was not left in hell, neither his flesh did see corruption.

This Jesus hath God raised up, whereof we all are witnesses.
33
Therefore being by the right hand of God exalted, and having received
of the Father the promise of the Holy Ghost, he hath shed forth this,
which ye now see and hear.
34
For David is not ascended into the heavens: but he saith himself,
The Lord said unto my Lord, Sit thou on my right hand,

Until I make thy foes thy footstool.

IX. The doctrine of Premillennialism is false from beginning to end. It is
based primarily on a wrong interpretation of
1
And I saw an angel come down from heaven, having the key of the
bottomless pit and a great chain in his hand.
2
And he laid hold on the dragon, that old serpent, which is the Devil,
and Satan, and bound him a thousand years,
3
And cast him into the bottomless pit, and shut him up, and set a seal
upon him, that he should deceive the nations no more, till the thousand
years should be fulfilled: and after that he must be loosed a little
season.
4
And I saw thrones, and they sat upon them, and judgment was given unto
them: and I saw the souls of them that were beheaded for the witness of
Jesus, and for the word of God, and which had not worshipped the beast,
neither his image, neither had received his mark upon their foreheads, or
in their hands; and they lived and reigned with Christ a thousand years.
5
But the rest of the dead lived not again until the thousand years were
finished. This is the first resurrection.
6
Blessed and holy is he that hath part in the first resurrection: on
such the second death hath no power, but they shall be priests of God and
of Christ, and shall reign with him a thousand years.
16
For the Lord himself shall descend from heaven with a shout, with the
voice of the archangel, and with the trump of God: and the dead in Christ
shall rise first:
17
Then we which are alive and remain shall be caught up together with
them in the clouds, to meet the Lord in the air: and so shall we ever be
with the Lord.
Deut 30:4
Matt 24:31
John saw souls of them that had been beheaded for
the testimony of Jesus reigning

Jesus, and for the word of God, and which had not worshipped the beast,
neither his image, neither had received his mark upon their foreheads, or
in their hands; and they lived and reigned with Christ a thousand years.
The thousand years is no
more a literal 1,000 years
10
For every beast of the forest is mine, and the cattle upon a thousand
hills.
9
Know therefore that the LORD thy God, he is God, the faithful God,
which keepeth covenant and mercy with them that love him and keep his
commandments to a thousand generations;
than the chain

almost the entire Christian dispensation. The first resurrection of

of Christ, and shall reign with him a thousand years.
is a spiritual resurrection in Christ
24
Verily, verily, I say unto you, He that heareth my word, and believeth
on him that sent me, hath everlasting life, and shall not come into
condemnation; but is passed from death unto life.
25
Verily, verily, I say unto you, The hour is coming, and now is, when
the dead shall hear the voice of the Son of God: and they that hear shall
live.
which
delivers one from spiritual death into life in Christ
3
Know ye not, that so many of us as were baptized into Jesus Christ
were baptized into his death?
4
Therefore we are buried with him by baptism into death: that like as
Christ was raised up from the dead by the glory of the Father, even so we
also should walk in newness of life.
5
For if we have been planted together in the likeness of his death, we
shall be also in the likeness of his resurrection:
6
Knowing this, that our old man is crucified with him, that the body of
sin might be destroyed, that henceforth we should not serve sin.
7
For he that is dead is freed from sin.
1
And you hath he quickened, who were dead in trespasses and sins;
2
Wherein in time past ye walked according to the course of this world,
according to the prince of the power of the air, the spirit that now
worketh in the children of disobedience:
3
Among whom also we all had our conversation in times past in the lusts
of our flesh, fulfilling the desires of the flesh and of the mind; and
were by nature the children of wrath, even as others.
4
But God, who is rich in mercy, for his great love wherewith he loved
us,
5
Even when we were dead in sins, hath quickened us together with
Christ, (by grace ye are saved;)
11
In whom also ye are circumcised with the circumcision made without
hands, in putting off the body of the sins of the flesh by the
circumcision of Christ:
12
Buried with him in baptism, wherein also ye are risen with him through
the faith of the operation of God, who hath raised him from the dead.
13
And you, being dead in your sins and the uncircumcision of your flesh,
hath he quickened together with him, having forgiven you all trespasses;
Note that the second death
6
Blessed and holy is he that hath part in the first resurrection: on
such the second death hath no power, but they shall be priests of God and
of Christ, and shall reign with him a thousand years.
14
And death and hell were cast into the lake of fire. This is the second
death.
Revelation 21:8 will not
have power over those who have part in the first resurrection.
8
But the fearful, and unbelieving, and the abominable, and murderers,
and whoremongers, and sorcerers, and idolaters, and all liars, shall have
their part in the lake which burneth with fire and brimstone: which is the
second death.
X. The Bible teaches that the bodies of the righteous and the wicked will
be raised at the same time
6
Seeing it is a righteous thing with God to recompense tribulation to
them that trouble you;
7
And to you who are troubled rest with us, when the Lord Jesus shall be
revealed from heaven with his mighty angels,
8
In flaming fire taking vengeance on them that know not God, and that
obey not the gospel of our Lord Jesus Christ:
9
Who shall be punished with everlasting destruction from the presence
of the Lord, and from the glory of his power;
10
When he shall come to be glorified in his saints, and to be admired in
all them that believe (because our testimony among you was believed) in
that day.
and will be judged
at the same time
28
Marvel not at this: for the hour is coming, in the which all that are
in the graves shall hear his voice,
29
And shall come forth; they that have done good, unto the resurrection
of life; and they that have done evil, unto the resurrection of damnation.
1
But of the times and the seasons, brethren, ye have no need that I
write unto you.
2
For yourselves know perfectly that the day of the Lord so cometh as a
thief in the night.
3
For when they shall say, Peace and safety; then sudden destruction
cometh upon them, as travail upon a woman with child; and they shall not
escape.
4
But ye, brethren, are not in darkness, that that day should overtake
you as a thief.
5
Ye are all the children of light, and the children of the day: we are
not of the night, nor of darkness.
6
Therefore let us not sleep, as do others; but let us watch and be
sober.
7
For they that sleep sleep in the night; and they that be drunken are
drunken in the night.
31
When the Son of man shall come in his glory, and all the holy angels
with him, then shall he sit upon the throne of his glory:
32
And before him shall be gathered all nations: and he shall separate
them one from another, as a shepherd divideth his sheep from the goats:
33
And he shall set the sheep on his right hand, but the goats on the
left.
34
Then shall the King say unto them on his right hand, Come, ye blessed
of my Father, inherit the kingdom prepared for you from the foundation of
the world:
35
For I was an hungred, and ye gave me meat: I was thirsty, and ye gave
me drink: I was a stranger, and ye took me in:
36
Naked, and ye clothed me: I was sick, and ye visited me: I was in
prison, and ye came unto me.
37
Then shall the righteous answer him, saying, Lord, when saw we thee an
hungred, and fed thee? or thirsty, and gave thee drink?
38
When saw we thee a stranger, and took thee in? or naked, and clothed
thee?
39
Or when saw we thee sick, or in prison, and came unto thee?
40
And the King shall answer and say unto them, Verily I say unto you,
Inasmuch as ye have done it unto one of the least of these my brethren, ye
have done it unto me.
41
Then shall he say also unto them on the left hand, Depart from me, ye
cursed, into everlasting fire, prepared for the devil and his angels:
42
For I was an hungred, and ye gave me no meat: I was thirsty, and ye
gave me no drink:
43
I was a stranger, and ye took me not in: naked, and ye clothed me not:
sick, and in prison, and ye visited me not.
44
Then shall they also answer him, saying, Lord, when saw we thee an
hungred, or athirst, or a stranger, or naked, or sick, or in prison, and
did not minister unto thee?
45
Then shall he answer them, saying, Verily I say unto you, Inasmuch as
ye did it not to one of the least of these, ye did it not to me.
46
And these shall go away into everlasting punishment: but the righteous
into life eternal.
50
Now this I say, brethren, that flesh and blood cannot inherit the
kingdom of God; neither doth corruption inherit incorruption.
51
Behold, I shew you a mystery; We shall not all sleep, but we shall all
be changed,
52
In a moment, in the twinkling of an eye, at the last trump: for the
trumpet shall sound, and the dead shall be raised incorruptible, and we
shall be changed.
53
For this corruptible must put on incorruption, and this mortal must
put on immortality.
54
So when this corruptible shall have put on incorruption, and this
mortal shall have put on immortality, then shall be brought to pass the
saying that is written,
Death is swallowed up in victory. Isa 25:8
55
O death, where is thy sting? O grave, where is thy victory?
Hos 13:14
56
The sting of death is sin; and the strength of sin is the law.
57
But thanks be to God, which giveth us the victory through our Lord
Jesus Christ.
58
Therefore, my beloved brethren, be ye stedfast, unmoveable, always
abounding in the work of the Lord, forasmuch as ye know that your labour
is not in vain in the Lord.
